Team Palumbo took on the world-famous Penn Relays this past weekend, and our Griffins proved they belong on the big stage! It was a weekend filled with “firsts,” grit, and record-breaking performances.
A Historic Run for the Girls 4×1
For the first time in Palumbo history—and in a rare achievement for our league—our Girls 4×1 team qualified for a Penn Relays Final! Out of roughly 500 teams competing, our girls were 1 of only 36 teams to make it back, qualifying for the Northeast Final.
While Friday’s race was a bit of a nail-biter with some nervous baton exchanges, the girls still secured 6th place in their heat. To put their speed in perspective, they ran a 48.5, just shy of their season’s best of 47.91.
Dominating the Public League
The success didn’t stop there. In the Public League 4×4 race, the girls took 2nd place! Despite dealing with an injury and running with an alternate, they fought hard to the finish. Even with the lineup change, we still hold the fastest time in the league at full strength.
Our boys also stepped up in a major way. The Boys 4×1 ran their second-best time of the season with an alternate, and the Boys 4×4 secured 5th place in the Public League race, setting a new season-best time!
Field Event Spotlight: Jaye Takes Flight
In another rare honor for Palumbo, Jaye was accepted into a field event! Being selected for jumps at the Penn Relays is a huge achievement, and Jaye represented us proudly on Saturday morning.
Congratulate Our Athletes!
Running at Franklin Field is an incredible pressure cooker, and our athletes handled it with grace and speed. Please give a huge shout-out to our Penn Relays squad:
Taiylor, Daijah, Zeinab, Harrisa, Kiyah, and Jaye!
Whether they were subbing in as alternates or breaking school records, these students showed exactly what Palumbo pride looks like.
Go Griffins!
