Our Science Olympiad team just returned from the State Tournament at Penn State Altoona, and they have some incredible news to share! The team secured 23rd place overall, holding steady with our ranking from last year—but that doesn’t tell the whole story.

The real headline? We tripled our medal count from last year! Despite some “never a dull moment” energy—including our bus breaking down in the middle of I-76 on Friday—our students stayed focused and delivered some of the best performances in Palumbo history.

Top Medal Performances
Across 23 grueling events, three of our teams placed in the top 10 in the entire state:

9th Place in Electric Vehicle: Chenglin and Edward
7th Place in Hovercraft: Chenglin and Sophia

Fun Fact: Countless hours went into calibrating the hovercraft to move at an exact speed in a perfectly straight line!
5th Place in Experimental Design: Sophia, Ya Zhen, and Kya

This is our highest finish in any single event ever at the State Tournament!

Congratulations to the Team!
Whether they were medaling in their events or keeping spirits high on the side of the highway, our Griffins represented Palumbo with grit and excellence.

If you see Chenglin, Edward, Sophia, Ya Zhen, Kya, or any of our other competitors in the halls, please give them a huge congratulations for a record-breaking performance!
