OPPORTUNITIES AND UPCOMING EVENTS
Penn Summer Mentorship Program
The Provost’s Summer Mentorship Program began in 2006 as a summer college preparatory program for Philadelphia 10th and 11th grade public and charter school students. The students were paired with participating Penn professional schools. Currently five of Penn’s schools PSOM, Nursing, Engineering, Law and Dental engage these students in specially created curricula and activities that give them opportunities to explore possible career choices. Each year 60-70 students share in these experiences. In addition to the curriculum in the school to which they are assigned, the students are offered test prep, financial literacy, life skills, college application process assistance/information and other services that help them to hone their skills and strengthen their self-confidence.

In partnership with College Possible, 12+ and Promise Corps, The School District of Philadelphia will be hosting seven financial aid completion pop up events, in an effort to support School District of Philadelphia students and their families. Each event will be held at school sites throughout all areas of the city.

Please see the attached infographic for information about October and November events. These events are open to ALL district students so encourage your students to attend.

December 2019, Furness HS, 4:30PM-6:30PM presented by The Office of Postsecondary Readiness

Kensington Region:
January 2020, Kensington Health Sciences Academy presented by 12+

STEP INTO COLLEGE
“Greetings Parents! The School District of Philadelphia would like to invite you to attend Philadelphia’s Pre-College Conference, STEP INTO COLLEGE.

The Step into College conference is free, and open to all Philadelphia 8th grade and  high school students and families who would like to hear from current college professionals and experts about areas such as college and career planning, the college admission process, how to pay for college, and the college experience.  The event will take place on Saturday, March 9 at 9:00am.”

Black Student Fund
“Since 1964, the Black Student Fund (BSF) has provided financial assistance and support services to Washington, DC metropolitan area African-American students, grades pre-kindergarten to 12, and their families. BSF-assisted students stay in school, graduate high school with distinction and enter college. 70% of these students are from one-parent households. Many are the first generation to progress to higher education.

Established to racially desegregate the independent schools of the National Capital area, the Fund serves as an advocate for all black children and strives to assure that black students and their families have equal access to every educational opportunity.”

ACCESS Card
Visit over thirty five local museums, science centers, gardens, historic sites and cultural attractions at a rate of $2 per person. Residents who “monitor their government issued cash, food, or medical benefits with an EBT card” are eligible to become an ACCESS Cardholder. One ACCESS card enables up to four family members attending at the discounted rate.

Students at Museums in Philly (STAMP) Pass
